President Koroma swears in 3 distinguished personalities

President Ernest Bai Koroma yesterday morning at State House administered the oath of office to 3 distinguished personalities for separate positions in the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, the National Electoral Commission, and the Audit Service Commission.

The President, after administering the oath of office to Justice Browne Marke, an outstanding criminal lawyer as a member of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, congratulated him, saying that he expected the lawyer to use his wide experience to gain public confidence. Justice Brown Marke, in response, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him, promising to live up to expectation.

In a separate but similar engagement with the President, the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Dr Christiana Thorpe, in presenting Mr. Steven Aiah Mattia as the new Commissioner to the eastern province, described him as a respectable man with wide experience in elections processes.

After administering the oath of office to the new commissioner, President Koroma congratulated him on behalf of the government and people of Sierra Leone, noting that he deserved the appointment, especially having served NEC for a long time. The President referred to him as part of the winning 2007 NEC team that conducted credible elections and gained international recognition, calling on him to maintain high standards of professionalism.

Responding, Commissioner Mattia assured the President and the people of Sierra Leone that he will not betray their confidence, promising to improve on standards to make the nation proud.

In yet another similar ceremony, Marjorie Yamida Hedd, who had successfully gone through parliamentary scrutiny, after taking the oath of office before President Koroma as a member of the Audit Service Commission, promised with the help of God to perform her duties to the best of her ability.

In congratulating the new official, President Koroma observed that the nation expected much from her, adding that her experience in that field was remarkable. He noted that Audit is an important arm of government which she should ensure would have the necessary mechanisms put in place for its efficient operation.
