VP Sam-Sumana receives Le25M from Islamic NGO to fight Ebola

Freetown, August 12 (SLENA) – Munazamat Al-Dawa Al-Islamia, an International NGO Monday 11 August presented a cheque for twenty-five million leones (Le25M) to Vice President Alhaji Chief Sam-Sumana as part of their contribution in the fight against Ebola. In his thank you remarks, the Hon Vice President expressed on behalf of His Excellency, the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma his profound gratitude to the delegation for partnering with government in the eradication of the deadly hemorrhagic fever, Ebola which is ravaging the three MRU countries.

He said the donation came at a challenging moment when the country is fighting to exterminate the Ebola virus, stating that the it disease started in the neighboring countries, spread through to Sierra Leone claiming the lives of peace loving Sierra Leonean nationwide.

Chief Sam-Sumana said the government is very much concern about the health of the people and especially the health workers who have and are still sacrificing their lives for the nation in the fight against the killer virus.

Showing how much the leader and government care about the people of this country, the Vice President said His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma cancelled his trip to the US Africa summit, paid visits to the Ebola epicenters in Kenema and Kailahun and also past Friday, met with his colleague Presidents from Guinea and Liberia to map out strategies in defeating the disease.

Contributions from government and donor partners, the Vice President said, has been used meaningfully by the Ministry of Health in providing more standard protective gears for health workers, and foot soldiers of the health ministry including ambulance drivers and burial officers. The money, he assured the delegation, will be utilized meaningfully in this touching moment in intensifying the fight against the disease across the country.

He said the maiden support is an indication of the continuation of the work the organization has been embarked on since they started operations in the country. He prayed for Allah’s strength in the country’s fight against the virus.

Presenting the cheque earlier, the Regional Director of Munazamat Al-Dawa Al-Islamia, Mohmed Moumin Mahmoud Ibrahim commended the Vice President for giving them such a wonderful opportunity to pay courtesy call on him.

The Regional Director said their purpose of calling on the Vice President at his Tower Hill office was to partner with the government in the fight against the Ebola virus. He prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection for the people, leaders and the government of Sierra Leone in the fight against the plaque.

Country Director of Munazamat Al-Dawa Al-Islamia, Mr. Abdul Ahmad Daramy gave a brief background of the organization which he said is an International NGO that is operating in about seven (7) countries including Sierra Leone. He said that, they are working with the governments of those countries in complimenting their effort in the area of development.

In Sierra Leone the country Director said they are working with the government in the areas of education, health including safe drinking water, providing loans to widows, caring for the orphans and other humanitarian assistances.
