Information and Broadcasting Minister Ibrahim Ben Kargbo was yesterday hailed in London for his efforts in projecting Sierra Leone’s image both locally and internationally.

Speaker after speaker hailed the minister for taking his precious time in informing them about developments back home which they say is unprecedented in the history of Sierra Leonean politicians coming to the United Kingdom.

“We must commend you for the good work you have been doing in promoting the image of Sierra Leone – your eloquence and the way you address issues of national concerns are just too great,” said Dr. Seray Wurie while giving the vote of thanks during the programme.

Dr. Wurie said with the minister’s address, they are now au-fait with developments back home which were of concern to them living in this part of the world and commended the minister for taking upon himself to address them.

Kargbo was addressing a press conference also attended by a cross-section of Sierra Leoneans at the Sierra Leone High Commission in London.

The minister heaped praises on President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma whom he described as an honest and dedicated leader and called on Sierra Leoneans to continue to give him the support that will eventually take Sierra Leone forward.

“I have worked with leaders in the past and I can tell you, what I see in President Koroma is decency and sincerity – he means every single statement he makes,” Kargbo said.

The minister highlighted government’s successes since the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) came to power in almost every sector in the country – from agriculture, to energy, road maintenance, fisheries, education and health to mention but a few.

“As it is now, we have succeeded considerably as a government and for us not even the sky is our limit as far as development is concerned,” the minister said.

The minister said government is also making significant progress in sustaining and promoting democracy making references to programmes in which his government incorporates members of the opposition.

“We have been generally commended by the rest of the world for this,” he said.

Alhaji Kargbo also commended Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom/Northern Ireland Edward Mohamed Turay, for the good work he has started within this short period of time since his appointment in London three months ago.

“I am impressed to learn that your High Commissioner has initiated a ‘Surgery’ programme where he meets and addresses concerns of Sierra Leoneans last Friday of every month,” he said.

He said the move is in line with government’s Open Government Initiative (OGI) in meeting with the people to explain government’s policies and initiatives especially on issues of national development.

Earlier, the Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom/Northern Ireland Tamba Mansa Ngegba, introduced the High Commissioner and explained the purpose of the minister’s visit.
