Sheikh Alie Kallay launches essential theology for today

Sheikh Alie Kallay of the Tengbeh Town Central Mosque in Freetown said at the launch of the book titled ‘Essential Theology for Today’ at the Harry Yansanah Hall of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) on Campbell Street in Freetown on Friday 18th July 2014 that Christianity is one of the divine religions like Islam and Judaism underscoring that the word religion is something beyond human imagination as it was established by God alone.

Officially launching the book, authored by Rev. Sylvanus M. Williams of the United Methodist Church Sierra Leone Annual Conference, Sheikh Alie Kallay articulated that the author’s approach to the subject matter is global and hoped that the book will be a best-seller not only in Sierra Leone but globally enlightening that the author has produced a resource material not only for the religious, but other sectors in society who want to seek knowledge and commended the author for a superb job.

He further enlightened that the book is quite unique as it deals with an important aspect of the religion which alas attracts little attention in a country with huge amounts of religious people, both male and female, affirming that some people may marvel at the uniqueness of the author’s profound interest and affection for religion but observed that in Sierra Leone most people pray but do not have time for religious studies.

According to Sheikh Alie Kallay, the author’s interest in religion, his sensitivity, total commitment to and compassion for the spread of the word of God deserves the commendation of all underscoring that for the author, the concept of religious knowledge is serious as he emphasized the different roles designed by God for all mankind on earth, the only known abode for human beings, and highlighted the country’s religious tolerance which he underscored is the envy of the world.

In his address at the ceremony, the author, Rev. Sylvanus M. Williams, a renowned writer in most of the local dailies and the Independent Media Awardee, ascribed his success in writing the book partly to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, a reasonably good health and the benefits of retirement some three years ago and disclosed that the former President of Zambia, Kenneth Kaunda, who wrote the book ‘Zambia Shall Be Free’, also wrote another book titled ‘A Letter To My Children’ while he was still in office while world renowned evangelist, Billy Graham, one of Christendom’s greatest evangelists, who had written many bestselling books, was still writing books up to last year at the age of 93.

Rev. Sylvanus M. Williams further revealed that the book, ‘Essential Theology for Today’, is his perspective on some unknown biblical issues and entreated all prospective writers to “nurture the time-honored habit of seriously reading not only newspapers but also good books,” underscored that it is unfair to be only reading books without writing otherwise we may run out of new books and informed that the book, ‘Essential Theology for Today’ also deals with depression, occultism and Islam among other topics.

He went on to maintain that the task of Christianity is to make men and nations true, just and upright in all their dealings as well as to bring all law and conduct into subjection and conformity to the law of God disclosing that it would surprise people to know that some Muslims, who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, would be saved while some some-called Christians would be heading for enteral condemnation and thanked God for the harmony between Christians and Muslims in Sierra Leone which he reiterated is world class concluding that the book is being launched in his immortality.

Among the dignitaries who attended the event were Dr. Sama Banya and Mr. Nathaniel Wellington.
