Airtel Launches Rising Stars Tournament Season 4

The fourth edition of Airtel Rising Stars tournament was formally launched 25th June at the National Stadium main bowl Freetown.

The opening ceremony was done by the Amputee Football Club. This year’s tournament is going to be played nationwide and is open for Under 17 teams for both boys and girls and it will run from June 2014 through July 2014. The tournament has gotten bigger and better as four key pillars where unveiled at the launch, the pillars for season 4 are:

  1. Inclusion,
  2. Massification,
  3. Celebration, and
  4. Sustainability

and this makes the difference from all the other tournaments.

The Minister of Sport Mr. Paul Kamara, Managing Director of Airtel Mr. Sudipto Chowdhury, and Deputy Minister of Sport Mr. Al-sankoh Conteh, Deputy Information minister Mr. Theo Nicol, Youth Ambassador Mr. Junior Navo, Airtel Rising Stars Ambassador Mr. Mohamed Kallon and Mr. Chris Kamara Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association were present at the ceremony. This tournament includes 30 football teams that have already qualified to participate.

Mr. Sudipto Chowdhury the managing Director of Airtel said that football is a talent and so Airtel is helping those who have the talent to show it to the world, helps build their talent. He said they want to see so many Mohamed Kallon’s in this country, they are helping people who have the talent to do so and that’s why they (Airtel) are happy to do this because it gives them joy by helping people who have the talent to do so and that is why they are including all the districts in the country, he is pleased with the Rising Stars Tournament as the slogan goes “Catch them young” and indeed Airtel is catching them young.

Mr. Mohamed Kallon the Airtel Rising Stars Ambassador said he think by having Airtel in the country is the best thing that has ever happen in Sierra Leone. He said football is not a child’s play, if you want to get to the top you must work hard and be serious, for you to be successful today is hard work, so if anyone want to be like him must work harder, football is a good thing just put effort in doing it you will enjoy whiles playing it, he advised the football clubs that will be participating to take their practices serious for anyone that want to emerged as winner.
