Residents of Rokupa Community call for Government intervention

Report reaching this press states that over 16,000 people said to be residents of the Rokupa community at Wellington at the East end of Freetown including Women, Youths, and the aged have called on Government to urgently intervene on the land matter between them and one Mr. M.L. Sedikie.

According to them, they calls on the Government especially His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Ministry of Justice and Antony General, and the Inspector General of Police to intervene as a result of confrontation towards the 10 day notice that has threatened to frustrate the many lives that have resided in the community for the past 34 years from the so called Mr. M.L. Sedikie and Mr. Wurrie Palava as owners of the land with thousands of many erected structures including Schools, Mosques and Churches, Hospitals and clinics Offices and as well as playing fields as part of their developmental strides in the community.

Speaking to the Honorable Member of Parliament of Constituency 099 Hon. Almamy G. Kargbo in an exclusive interview told this press that his constituency is peaceful as he said, was very much astonished and confused when he heard about the ugly and sad news for his constituents started by asking where the said man could have get this 10 acres of land where people have been living for years.

Hon. Almamy G. Kargbo according to him said effort had been down to meet with some various stakeholders concerning the land, like the Minister of Justice and Antony General and the Inspector General of Police in collaboration with his Councilor as a way of dialogue and mechanism put in place to promote peace and tranquility in the community.

He said that based open those meetings, adding that positive responses were immense to put on hold over the court action of the 10 day notice to investee his people whereby had personally meet with All People Congress Regional Secretary in the person of Hon. Part Soi as according to him the majority of the people have legal documents to the effect.

Councilor Sheaku Alhassan Gibrill Turay aka Ice Tee of Ward 354 said the land in question between his people, especially at Harding Street, Solomon Lane and its environs, was unfortunate, as already 5 days had gone within the 10 days court notice.

He said that the unpleasant action taken by Mr. M. L. Sedikie will not be tolerated, noting that his people are actively contributing to national development, adding that they are the greater majority citizens of the land he said, they had engaged several personalities and had received advice from Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo to His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

In their response, residences of the Rokupa Community axis Mabinty Koroma at Mansaray Street, Mrs. Aminata Amato Kamara, Mr. Max Bangura a man of God and Hassan Conteh a businessman as well as Angilna a Nours at the community, all stated that they are the owned property of the land and as a result of the trespasses calling on the authorities concerned especially government to come to their aid as peaceful citizens that the so called M.L. Sedikie and Wurrie Palava and others wanted to trespasses them for reason best known to them and grab their land and houses for which, they have stayed for over 30 to 35 years with their families.

In his response, Lawyer representing Brewa Co Chamber, Lawyer Abdul Razack Sedikie in an exclusive said he is the owner of the land through by his late father since 2003.

Lawyer Abdul Razack Sedikie went further to state that his late father Hon. Alhaji M. S. Sedikie who was one time Cabinet Minister for APC bought the land with a convince he said, through one Alhaji Wurie Jalloh, while he went further to state that, it was later than one Mr. Abu Bakarr Sesay decided to sell the land on his behalf to most of the residents that are now occupying the land for which, he said the matter has been convened to the High Court.

Lawyer Abdul Razack Sedikie expressed dissatisfaction noting that, he was expecting the Member of Parliament to have called him to attention rather than going to the media for which, he said he did not have any knowledge about the land as much is expected from him, he concluded
