PMDC celebrates 8yr anniversary

Friday 11th April 2014 marks the 8th year anniversary of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) as the party was born on the 11th April 2006.

This disclosure was made known by the Chairman and Leader of PMDC Charles Francis Margai in a press conference on Wednesday 9th April 2014 at the party Headquarters at Prince Street in Freetown.

Mr. Margai said the conference was to tell the people of Sierra Leone that PMDC is well Alive and kicking and also an awareness raising campaign for their match to State House come 2018. Also the conference marks the start of the party’s 8th year anniversary as it was celebrated on Friday at the party’s head quarters.

Mr. Charles Francis Margai dilated on the astronomical candidature fees which he said is a ploy to disenfranchise the people of Sierra Leone and therefore needs the concerted effort of all Political Parties, Civil Society Organizations, the people of Sierra Leone, the International Community together with the press to fight these astronomical fees else come 2018 the system is going to be very selective hence many will be disenfranchise because of the astronomical fees.

The chairman and leader also highlighted that the government through parliament should be providing subventions to all registered and active political parties for their survival, but deserving parties must be subjected to agreed causes to avoid multiplicity of political parties.

In pursuing the part of reconciliation Mr. Margai appealed to the general membership of PMDC especially to those who have taken the back seat to live up to their challenges and pay their membership contributions though the 4 for 4 ‘is biting,’ because the PMDC party’s national conference is slated for November 2014 so that they too can contest for leadership positions.

He agreed that comparatively PMDC “Is a young party that is still gripping but gripping with pride,” said Margai. He said the country needs ‘change and a positive change’ which only the PMDC can give you that change. “Give me State House for one and a half year you would never want me to leave,” he said

He blamed the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) for not addressing their complains filed to them 4 months ago against the government for giving certain positions to members of the All People’s Congress party (APC) which according to him is a breach of the code of Section 27 of the PPRC Act.

He dilated on the recent election of the Speaker of Parliament which he condemned and said is illegal.
