Parliament gives green light to Siray Timbo

Sierra Leone’s newly appointed ambassador to the United Arab Emirates(UAE) was on 27th March, 2014 approved by Parliament.

Mr. Siray Alpha Timbo (in photo) was nominated for that position by His Excellency, the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma a couple of days ago in accordance with Section 153 (2) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 (Act. No. 6 of 1991), subject to the approval of parliament.

Speaking on the telephone line from Freetown shortly after he got approval from the House of Representatives, the ambassador designate expressed his belief in Sierra Leone benefiting enough from its relationship with the UAE.

He also promised to explore all the fields of endeavour to take laurels to his country. He assured that he would protect the interest of all Sierra Leoneans in the UAE and its immediate environs, irrespective of political, ethnic or regional considerations. “The national interest is paramount and must be put above all other considerations” he told me on the phone.

Mr. Timbo is currently the Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Investment and Development (PICID) in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) and Middle East. He has been collaborating with our the Sierra Leone Mission in Saudi Arabia and other concerned Sierra Leone Embassies in matters relating to Trade, Investment, Tourism, Economic and Industrial Development within the G.C.C. and the Middle East.

He has been the Special Envoy of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the UAE, GCC and the Middle East from 2009 to date.
