Masters Scholarship in Journalism in China

Freetown 5th March 2014: SLAJ members would recall that at an Extraordinary General Meeting on Friday 28th February, it was announced that a scholarship had been awarded to SLAJ by the Chinese Ambassador for a Masters degree program in journalism in China.

It would also be recalled that the condition given was that the awardee must be a good first-degree holder and under 35 years old.

SLAJ Executive imposed further qualification, that the awardee must be a fully paid-up member.

The Executive would like to make it known that it received only two applications: the first was from journalist Matthew Abdul Kanu, the SLAJ Chair North, and another from Augustine Samba of the Awareness Times newspaper.

After screening of the two (2) applications, it came out clear that while Matthew Kanu was a fully paid-up SLAJ member, Augustine Samba did not meet this criterion.

The SLAJ Executive therefore took the decision to award the scholarship to Matthew Abdul Kanu as he was the only applicant to have met all the criteria set.
