African Minerals (SL) Ltd is inviting applications from interested candidates for the position of  Engineer – Geotechnical (Tonkolili Mine)

This role will report to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Technical Services and will be based at the Tonkolili project site.

Role purpose

  • The overall purpose of the role is to assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in strengthen the technical Services team by providing support for geotechnical data capture, analysis, designs, recommendations and monitoring programs as generally directed

Specifically, the Engineer – Geotechnical will be responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures, objectives and regulations and the commitment to achieving Zero Harm through safe behaviours.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HR policies, procedures, objectives and regulations through appropriate behaviours.
  • Provision of timely comprehensive and high quality geotechnical support and reports to mine operations.
  • Provision of geotechnical support for long term planning and mine design.
  • Providing hands on operational support for geotechnical data collection, analysis and integration into mine plans.
  • Interpretation of geotechnical data, assessment and modelling work to support mine design recommendations .
  • Development or acquisition of a geotechnical database for the mining operation and maintain and validate data within the database.
  • Development and implementation of the slope and dump management plans in line with geotechnical safety standards.
  • Deputise for the Senior Geotechnical Engineer when required.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfil the overall business objective.

Qualifications and skills

Knowledge/Education:

  • Degree level qualification in engineering geology, Geomechanics, geotechnical engineering.  Post graduate qualifications in mine Geotechnics or related disciplines would be an advantage
  • Ability to run industry standard Geotechnical software (ie Minescape)
  • Understanding of mine design, geotechnical risk and civil engineering practices
  • Fluent verbal and written English
  • MS Office
  • IT systems knowledge of a general mining package is essential.  Experience in Datamine or Deswik Cad is preferable but not essential.

Experience:

  • 5+ Years’ experience in large scale mining operations
  • Exposure to multi-national, ethnic and cultural environments
  • Demonstrable experience working within a similar role, including:
    • Experience in site investigations and geotechnical data analysis
    • Development of mine design recommendations
    • Management of geotechnical consultants and contractors
    • Risk mitigation planning and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of hydrogeology is desirable but not essential.

Experience in iron ore mining preferred but not essential

This role will report to the Superintendent Maintenance and will be based at the Tonkolili Mine site.

Role purpose

To Provide Maintenance forecasting to the Superintendent, Review Maintenance work orders,manage back log work, raise ANSI’s and obtain quotes.

•           To ensure all items of mobile plant are correctly scheduled for maintenance.

Specifically, the Maintenance Planner will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant HSE policies, procedures, objectives and regulations and the commitment to achieving Zero Harm through safe behaviours.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant HR policies, procedures, objectives and regulations through appropriate behaviours.
  • Raise notifications from inspections carried out.
  • Reporting information on a scheduled basis; present reviews of lead time to superintendents
  • Raise prs in SAP, obtain part numbers, obtain quotes and obtain delivery dates.
  • Communicating information on planned shuts to Supervisors and Superintendents.
  • People interactions to build good relationships with Procurement.
  • Key measures & targets, weekly planning and monthly budget reports to be sent to Superintendents.
  • Decision making authority to advise Superintendent on costing from quotes.
  • Continuous improvement to the planning department to provide support to the maintenance teams.

Qualifications and skills

The Maintenance Planner will require knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:

Knowledge/Education:

  • Tertiary studies, Engineering or Planning experience or degree.
  • Para-professional qualifications in Engineering
  • General qualifications MS office suite, Computer literate
  • Familiar with IT systems especially SAP

Skills:

  • Interpersonal
  • Verbal communication
  • Written communication
  • Leadership behaviours
  • Presentation of information
  • Multi-tasking capability
  • Ability to work unsupervised

Experience:

  • Minimum time spent in specific/similar industry
  • Minimum time spent in a specific role or at a specific level
  • Understanding of specific industry function/s
  • Exposure to broader industry function/s
  • Exposure to industry specific work practices
