The Mayor went to visit traders of Victoria Park to inform them about the relocation of Sani Abacha Street Traders to Sewa Grounds in person, and to inspect the progress the rehabilitation of Sewa Grounds, specifically with regards to sanitation and security.

Speaking to occupants of Sewa Grounds, Mayor Gibson said it is frustrating for the council and development partners who have spent millions of Leones to build a market and stores for traders, but some people have taken upon themselves to turn the place a pumping site, even to the extent of throwing human feces all over the place.

At any time from now, the Mayor revealed, the traders will be facing relocation from Sani Abacha Street to Sewa Grounds, a move he said is a start to ensure that Traders are removed from the streets to ensure that traffic congestion is reduced and also to restore dignity and security for themselves whilst doing their business.

The FCC together with the Trade and Transport Ministries are working together to make sure that when traders are removed from the street, they are relocated, and also they want to ensure that the city looks like a city.

It could be recalled that Traders of Sani Abacha Street signed a Memorandum of Understanding, between them, FCC, and Civil Society Organizations in October last year that they will all move over to Sewa Ground market, and that the 1961 Trade Act should be revisited to ensure that shops sell their goods only on wholesale and the petty traders sale at retail.
