Culture Radio holds workshops for women and journalists in the north

Culture Radio 104.5 FM on 24 Fort Street in the capital of Freetown in collaboration with Bread for the World; a German based organization embarked on a three year project on the theme: “Radio work to stimulate democracy and human rights”. Within and around Port Loko in the north west part of Sierra Leone, women from all walks of life participated in day long sensitization bordering on “challenges women commonly face in acquiring land for different purposes, ranging from domestic to farming and cultivation purposes. “Topical in the interactive workshops was how do women reasonably address some of the issues affecting them with regards; the current and emerging issues.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Culture Radio – Mr. Elijah Mohamed Issa Gegra, the three years Culture Radio project is aiming at relentless educating and sensitizing women on their domestic, human and citizenry rights, more especially; on the basic needs and necessities of man and the society, how do we respect and work side by side with women.

Station Manager and Project Coordinator, Mr. Theophelus Sahr Gbenda aka more-fire, has been one of the guides alongside Secretary General of YMCA-SL, Adainekeh Cole. One of her noted angles were, seemingly  some words of caution and courage to the participants that the training in other words, serves as windows for opportunities.

Some of the participants found it strange when they dispatched into  group work by deeper ways of testing some of their learning abilities for transfer of knowledge to non attendants after the educative workshop, held at the Port Loko District Council.

However, the Culture Radio team engaged women of Lunsar on Wednesday, 11th December on similar sensitization. Thursday, 12th December, engaged women of Makeni at the UNIMAK campus in Makeni, where the city Mayor-Mrs. Sunkarie Kabba Kamara was expected to bless the workshop.

Women of  Magburaka will also be opportune to the meaningful and timely workshop for women scheduled to take place at the Tonkolili District Council hall in Magburaka, on 13th December. On the same day-13th December, Culture Radio will be equally training at the UNIMAK campus in Makeni, about twenty-five Journalists residing in the north part of the country. The training is compounded on investigative journalism and context analysis.

According to schedule, the Principal Magistrate of the Makeni Magistrate court-Alhaji Momojah Steven will have to school Journalists in the afternoon session of the training, while veteran Journalist and Mass communications Lecturer at  UNUMAK, Mr. Ezekiel Thullah Jnr. Takes on morning session of the all-important training.
