Connaught Hospital is a Disgrace

Reports’ reaching this press state that the operation of the Central Government Hospital in the country, the Connaught Hospital, is in a complete deplorable and a messy state of affairs, both in terms of administration and providing care and support for patients.

Patients at the hospital are complaining of the excessive filth that has married all parts of the hospital compound and is now encroaching on the wards bringing rats and cockroaches to share medication with patients.

Patients also complained about high charges on consultation and bed fees by the hospital administration with little or no facilities given to them.  Water supply is limited – rationed, we don’t use it when we feel like, and the toilets are almost always messy, a patient that has spent five months at the hospital related to Sierra Express.  The nurses it seems are not even happy with the job they are doing, they don’t pay much attention to sick people the patient added.

A senior female officer at the hospital, who asked not to be named for fear of being sacked, lamented that nurses at the hospital are subjected to unbearable and inhuman working conditions with patients getting the worse of the pie.

An aggrieved nurse queried the recruitment policies on the employment of nurses at the hospital saying that it is done on a renewable period of six months, for years, without any letters of appointment. Mostly SEM has found out after a six month period the nurses are urged to either continue their services without further negotiation or leave the job without any benefit. Most of the nurses interviewed on the matter say that they have worked at the hospital more than six years, because of qualification but are still not yet regularized.
