MP writes Lands Minister

The Member of Parliament for Constituency 109, Hon. Amadu Fofonnah aka Fofie, has informed Journalists at a news conference held at his 103 Pademba Road office in Freetown on Friday October 18 this year, that he has written a letter to the Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment, Hon. Musa Tarawally informing him that the land at Quarry Works Yard, off Pademba Road, Sumaila Town, has been a battle field for ownership by the Sumaila Town community and the Collen family.

According to MP, this situation has caused instability in that community with potential treat for serious uprising in his Constituency.

He added that he is pleased to inform Hon. Musa Tarawally that he has contacted senior officials of his Ministry, the National Assets Commission, the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure to determine the legal ownership of the property but was told that the property has not yet been allocated to anyone as the community is desperately in need of the above property to construct a health centre for which funding has been secured from the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).

The soft spoken law maker called on the Minister that he would appreciate if he could use his good offices to settle the misunderstanding as it is seriously impacting negativity on the community.

He also explained that one of the claimants of the property, Mr. Taiwo Collens, failed to present his own documents for over six months and that he was therefore told that he did not own that piece of land.

He revealed that at one time he was called by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at State House to report to State House when his constituents rose against Mr. Taiwo Collens.

“At State House, I met wit the Presidential Youth Aid, Mr. Bai Mahmoud who tried to resolve the matter but it will interest you to note that the Minister of Lands, Hon. Musa Tarawally, has refused to see me on the matter,” he concluded.
