Mahmoud Tarawally granted Le100 million bail

Mahmoud Tarawally (in photo), former Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology, charged with the alleged rape of a young girl, was granted Le100 million bail at the Magistrate’s Court, Freetown, and the condition of a guarantee from a Sierra Leone citizen within the Western Area of Freetown.

Tarawally’s travel documents were taken from him and he is to report daily, each morning, to Central Police Station.

The case is adjourned until Thursday 26 September, 2013.

  • Why is it only that bail conditions stipulates surtey from the Western area only. Why why – this highlights an anomaly that property rights are deficient and needs urgent attention. Land tenure and property rights are in the interest of every citizen. If some citizens are grace and favour tennants only, by strict construction, then future succession rights may be problematic
