Massive Corruption at Central Police Traffic

Latest report reaching this press has intimated that widespread corruption is presently going on at the traffic section of ‘A’ Division which is headed by the District Traffic Officer (DTO), Inspector Kabbah.

The report further disclosed that some unscrupulous police personnel at ‘A’ Division are in the habit of arresting drivers on trumped up charges and demanding a bribe of Le50,000 cash for taxi and poda poda if a driver doesn’t want to be charged to court.

Since the start of last week, over 40 drivers have been arrested at various locations such as Goderich Street, Siaka Stevens Street, Circular Road and PZ but it will interest the public to note that not more than 10 drivers were reportedly charged to court as thousands of leones were demanded from the drivers.

A police sergeant of the traffic unit, who preferred not to be named, intimated this press that the loot from these traffic offences is being shared with some Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at police headquarters.

To help the Complaint Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) this press will endeavour to publish the names of corrupt traffic personnel at that division this week as these personnel are giving the police a bad name, including Inspector Kabbah.

This is not to say that there are no good (DOT) in the Sierra Leone Police like Inspector Saidu Mike Kargbo of the Eastern Police division, ASP Isata Fullah of the Lumley divisional headquarters, Inspector Victoria I Sesay of ‘D’ divisional headquarters and Inspector Kalos of ‘B’ division Ross Road who are doing the correct work for the Sierra Leone police.

ASP Salifu Conteh is on record as one man who is doing extremely well and people like Sergeant Bakaar, and Sergeant Manso who are also doing good job for the state.

Corruption has become so endemic at the Central Police Station traffic division as it was not so during the days of former Inspector General of Police Keith Biddle and former IGP Brima Acha Kamara.

There was high expectation from the masses when IGP Francis Alieu Munu took over the SLP but corruption at the traffic division is an eyesore as there is nothing good to write home about. Superintendent Shyllon of CDIID, please you must do something very urgent to change the face of the SLP.

In our next edition, we will publish of how a Le500,000 bribe was taken by DTO Kabbah from an American.
