Worst Convention… SLPP Blames John Benjamin

Stalwarts of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have described the party’s recently-concluded convention in Bo as the worst in the history of the party; a situation which they blamed on the poor management of the out gone national executive headed by John Oponjo Benjamin.

In an interview with this press, the concerned stalwarts said the past convention lacked the usual drumming, dancing, feasting and cordiality that characterized all of the party’s previous conventions, noting that the past convention was tainted by hate speeches, mudslinging and other forms of acrimony crowned by unusually large number of police which, they said, intimidated many delegates. “There were more police than delegates,” they noted.

The concerned stalwarts alleged that John Benjamin’s out gone executive woefully mismanaged the party funds, a situation which, they said, made the convention lackluster.

They further accused John Benjamin’s executive of fostering disunity within the party, a disunity which, they said, was largely responsible for the hostilities that characterized the recent convention in Bo where Somano Kapen emerged victorious as Chairman and Leader.

Meanwhile, John Benjamin and his executive are yet to respond to the allegations of the concerned stalwarts.
