Constituency 101 Parliamentarian dupes youths

The Member of Parliament for Constituency 101 in Central Kissy in the east of Freetown is reported to have duped youths of the area of money he was supposed to pay them for the clearing of drainages in their area.

Explaining the saga to this paper, a spokesman for the irate youths stated that some time in early August this year, Hon. Abdul Salam Kanu asked them to clear the drainage from the Saroulla to Taylor Street axis along the Bye Pass Road in Kissy with the understanding that each man would be paid the sum of Le 50,000 for the work.

He also explained that after clearing the drainage on that day he gave them Le 25,000 each with the promise that he would give them the balance the following day.

The spokesman said that since then the Hon. Abdul Salam Kanu has neither come back to them nor has he sent their balance money.

He also stated that Hon. Abdul Salam Kanu refused to disclose to them the amount of money he collected from the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) for the work.

He lamented that the garbage that was removed from the gutter and put on the side of the road is returning into the gutter as it was not cleared from the spot.

As at press time we were unable to get to Hon. Abdul Salam Kanu for his reaction to the allegations.

Meanwhile we are now investigating to know how much money he collected from the SLRA for the work and how he had spent it.
