SLPP’s Kapen pledges sober leadership

The Vice Chairman of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Chief Alhaji Bai Shebora Somanoh Kapen has joined the race for his party’s leadership and National Chairmanship in the wake of the August 16th-17th party convention due to take place in the southern city of Bo.

In an exclusive interview with this press, Chief Somanoh Kapen noted that with the present status quo in the SLPP, the party needs somebody with an acumen in good governance to stir the mantle of leadership of the party with a bid to restoring hope, unity and a right sense of duty to serve the entire membership.

“It is indeed a overwhelming task that requires the inter play of key elements including, uniting a common effort of members for a common good, winning the hearts and minds of the people and to restore harmony and affection among party members”, Chief Kapen lamented.

He continued that he has contributed immensely towards the development of the party since he was a school going pupil and cited the general elections of 1957 when he was a polling agent for Dr Kerefa Smart to his membership in the inner caucus of the party together with the late teacher R.E.S Lagao as the chairman then.

The Chief boasted that he resigned his position as Paramount Chief and President of the West Africa of Farmers Association to serve his party.

Chief Somanoh Kapen explained that now that the party is faced with complex challenges coupled with the ‘Pa-o-Pa’ and progressive factions within the party, he is also confident that his hard work in the civil service, in both the diplomatic and public services and his 25 years experience as a Paramount Chief, he will assure that unity, progress and victory return to the party once again.

Chief Kapen therefore entreats delegates to vote their conscience and chose him to deliver the goods to the party and the nation at large.
