Ahead of Bye-election – NEC Chair Gives Stern Warning

In preparation for the Constituency 62 parliamentary bye-election in Tonkolili District scheduled for June 29, 2013, the Chairperson of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Dr. Christiana Thorpe, has issued a stern warning to the Mile 91 police to provide maximum security for especially the independent candidate, John Gbla and his supporters to ensure that the election goes on peacefully.

While declaring the campaign open for the election in Mile 91, Dr. Thorpe warned government officials to refrain from using government vehicles to campaign and called on police officers not to allow government officials to misuse them to do the wrong thing, noting that the international community will be observing the election.

Dr. Thorpe assured the people that the election will be free and fair.
