The Cape Verdeans despite losing the previous three matches pulled up a strong and surprise victory at home against Sierra Leone, who have failed to defeat Tunisia at home.

Though this victory for Cape Verde may not be enough, the defeat for Sierra Leone has ended any hopes for Brazil 2014.

Sierra Leone won the reverse fixture in Freetown 2-1 in June this year, however they now five points from matches in their group.

The victory for Cape Verde is their second in as many weeks, they have been pointless before June and are now second ahead of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone’s 27-year-old British coach Johnny McKinstry was unfortunate last week against Tunisia in Freetown when Leone Stars came very close to victory, but faced his first defeat in Praia.
