Big demo looms over Kamakwie, Sierra Leone

Indigenes of Kamakwie in the Northern Province are reported to have planned a masterpiece demonstration against the AMR Gold Exploration Company operating in the Kahinbor section.  This was revealed during an emergency press conference at the Kamakwie Court Barray on Wednesday, June 5TH 2013,  by an indigene of Kamakwie, Henry Kamara.

He accused both the Acting Director of Mines, Mr. Timbo and the Deputy Minister of Mines, Honorable Abdul Ignosie Koroma, of misleading the people that they have no right to undertake any mining activity in the operational areas of AMR, a ban which, he said, has prompted them to plan the big demonstration.

Henry Kamara vowed that they will never succumb to AMR conditions because, according to him, the AMR is hell bent on monopolizing the buying and selling of a precious mineral called, coltan (black stone). He informed the news conference that the landowners are determined not to allow the AMR continue operating on their land if they are not allowed to continue their mining and selling of the black stone.

He divulged the people’s grand plan to scare away the company workers with their traditional Gbangbani Society which he described as fearful and having devastating consequences.

A school teacher, Mohamed Kamara, explained that AMR exploration license is limited to gold and not coltan, concluding that their strike action will be more serious than those of Bumbuna and Kono. He called for government’s prompt intervention to avert the imminent demonstration.
