The President and delegation during the one hour transit were met on arrival at the airport by HE Ambassador Khadijatu Bassir, government officials including the Adviser to President Macky Sall Mr. Moussa Mbaye and officials and staff of the Embassy.

Talking to the Information Attaché as to how it all went, President Koroma described the conference as very successful. “It went on very well. In terms of Organization, it was superb. Also worth mentioning were the interaction of participants and the pronouncement made by the Prime Minister in terms of Japan’s commitment to Africa’s development.

He informed that $30B was put forward out of which $6.5B was allocated to infrastructure. When asked whether Sierra Leone stands to benefit President Koroma replied in the positive saying “The nation has been benefiting from the JICA Projects in terms of water for Rokupr and Kambia and food and fuel Aid Programs”

According to the President, fruitful discussions were held with the Prime Minister and together with his delegation they met the JICA Team and commended them for their support to especially rural communities. “As a responsible government, we are looking forward to implementing some of the discussions with the Prime Minister” he concluded.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Samura Kamara at the Meeting delivered a paper on ‘POST 2015 MDGs’. He reminded participants that it remained about 940 days to go were all countries, should have met the millennium  Development Goals on eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, improving gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality rates, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS? Malaria, and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.

Also speaking to this writer, The Special Executive Assistant (SEA) to the President Dr. Sylvia Blyden, said the trip to Japan was very successful for both Japan and African countries. She described the discussions as being robust and frank, leading to the adoption of the YOKOHAMA DECLARATION, which will be the framework for cooperation between Japan and Africa for the next five year.

She said President Koroma was one of the toasts for the event, especially the excellent manner in which he chaired the Special summit of Heads of State to discuss reforms of the UN Security Council. According to the SEA, all Sierra Leoneans should be proud of their President who has been recently described as one of the most effective and efficient Presidents in Africa.

The TICAD Meeting is held once every five years with follow – up meetings in between and provides a major global framework for Asia and Africa to collaborate in promoting Africa’s development. It is sponsored by AUC, World Bank, UN, UNDP and the government of Japan.
