Following Wind Disaster…Wesley Secondary School Cries for Help

The Principal of the Wesley Secondary School in Segbwema in Jaluahun Chiefdom, Kailahun District, Reverend Lisa Kovoma, has called on government and donor agencies to rescue the school from the damage caused by a recent storm which blew roof off the school’s building leaving the pupils without enough classrooms.  (Wesley Secondary School before the storm)

The Principal noted that the massive destruction caused by the wind affected his office, the staffroom and several classrooms, thereby disrupting the school session and relocated pupils are now clustered in the few tight classrooms that were fortunate not to be destroyed by the wind.

“What has worsened the matter is the fact that the school has been unroofed during the rains, a situation which can lead to the collapse of the unroofed structure if it is not promptly roofed,” noting that the school needs the sum of Le25 million to roof the building.

Reverend Kovoma stated that they have already circulated letters soliciting assistance from the Sierra Leone Red Cross, Save the Children, and other relief agencies, but that they are yet to get a response from them.  He made a special plea to His Excellency the president, Ernest Bai Koroma and the First Lady, Her Excellency Sia Nyama Koroma to personally assist the school to save it from collapse.
