Football icon launches ARS Season Three

Football icon, Mohamed Kallon, officially launched the Airtel Rising Stars tournament at the Presidential Lounge on Wednesday 22nd May 2013 at the National Stadium.

Airtel mobile company has again launched the US $450,000 colourful Airtel Rising Stars Tournament Season III.

Since the Airtel Rising Stars tournament commenced in the country three years ago, many young people, especially those below 17 years, have gained themselves the opportunity to showcase their talent in football, nationally and internationally.

Managing Director, RVS Bhullah said that this is the third season of the Airtel Rising Stars competition in the country and pointed out that the program is to enable them identify young soccer talent and groom them from grass roots onto national stage.

He added that their commitment was demonstrated last year by the investment of a bulk sum of  $350,000 including expenses for organizing the whole tournament and facilitating the travelling of the two teams to Kenya to participate in the Pan African Youth Tournament.

Bhullah was very proud to state that Airtel is the only network that has ever promoted and is still promoting youth football, both locally and internationally. He disclosed that this year’s winners will be travelling to Nigeria to take part in the same tournament.

Madame June Rose Johnson maintained that as part of their company’s corporate social responsibility, it is supporting education, sports, health and making life better for its subscribers nationwide.

The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Abdul Rahman Swarray said that Airtel is doing extremely well in identifying young football talent in the country.

Deputy Minister of Sports, Ismael Al-Sankoh praised Airtel for such a wonderful job and assured that his ministry will give the necessary support needed to actualize the vision of the company. He added that people and children have passion for football.

Keith Tukei said that in this year’s tournament, two teams – male and female – will be travelling to Nigeria in September for the youth tournament where they will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in a competition featuring other teams from the U 17 countries in Africa.

The programme was climaxed with Mohamed Kallon and Deputy Minister of Sports Al- Sankoh unveiling the logo.

Football icon Mohamed Kallon was crowned as ARS Ambassador.
