Following Reckless Verification… Disaster Averted in Sierra Leone

The recently released report of the teacher verification exercise conducted by the Public Sector Reform Unit would have brought disaster to this country if it was not promptly nullified.

Sources from the Sierra Leone Teachers Union (SLTU), confirmed to this medium that the report left the names of hundreds of actively serving teachers and some principals deleted from the payroll for being labeled ghost teachers, a situation that almost triggered a nationwide demonstration that would have resulted in calamity.

Reportedly, the vehement protest that followed the public notice prompted its instant nullification and a counter public notice broadcast that no name was deleted from the voucher. In Pujehun, the affected teachers were about to go on the rampage when the counter public notice was announced which pacified the situation.

In Pujehun alone, the names of about 350 teachers were said to have been deleted from the voucher and in Bo about 700, and many more in Freetown; an announcement that sent shock shivers running down the spine of the affected teachers. The SLTU blamed the scare on the recklessness of those sent to carry out the verification exercise.
