Three pediatric surgeons from Germany will visit Sierra Leone, to offer free medical services for children with specific condition requiring pediatric surgical expertise.

Dr. T Gresing, a consultant pediatric surgeon and Head of Department at Pediatric Surgery at the Evangelical Hospital in Lippstadt Germany, Dr El- Naieb, also a consultant in private practice, and Sierra Leonean born retired pediatricians based in Germany Dr Morley Wright, will arrive in Freetown March 12.

The Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Jongopie Siaka Stevens informed this reporter in an exclusive interview at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Berlin on Monday January 1.

Ambassador Siaka Stevens further disclosed plans to empower youths in Sierra Leone and promote investment programmes through the support of the Federal Republic of Germany.

He identified impending areas of development, which he believed warranted immediate attention. The areas he highlighted, among others include: agriculture, education and youth empowerment.

He said he was presently working closely with the German Foreign Ministry of Economic Development and other agencies to achieve this goal.

“I have had discussions with DAAD and the Federal Foreign Ministry of Economic Development. We are now working on strategies and I will soon give them a plan of action to see how much they can help,” Ambassador Stevens said.

DAAD is the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austansch Dienst), which provides scholarships to student to pursue academic excellence in Germany.

The ambassador’s other priority is to seriously engage his diplomatic colleagues in Germany and discuss about potential areas of investment in Sierra Leone.

“While meeting colleagues at the foreign office here in Germany, I will tell them that Sierra Leone is ripe for investment. The idea of the investment forum held recently in London, was to inform the globe that Sierra Leone is now safe to do business,” he affirmed.

He reiterated Germany’s bilateral bond with Sierra Leone since 1973 after diplomatic ties were established between the two countries and further noted that, “Germany has done so much for Sierra Leone over the years.”
