Kofi Addai, others excel in squash tournament

The Armed Forces squash tournament which commenced past Saturday, April 13th at Wilberforce continues to gain excitement. Over 70 squash players are currently competing in the Africell-sponsored tournament which is full of surprises.

In the opening exhibition match, Vice-President, Sam Sumana, defeated the Chairman, Armed Forces Squash Club, Ambrose Agu. Officials of Africell were present at the opening ceremony including the competitors, fans and journalists.

This Thursday evening April 18th, Benjamin Kargbo will engage Emmanuel Kpakiwa in the first semi-final and the second semi-final will see Alfred Kappia battling against Joseph Seilenga for supremacy in the junior category.

In the open category, Mohamed Toby Sumaila defeated Mohamed Kargbo, Mohamed Dumbuya beat Biko Sesay, Bonkay brilliantly edged out John Davies and the tournament favorite, James Fayia, thrashed Daddy Kofi in a ding-dong encounter.

In the veteran category, there were victories for Dr. Nyuma, Desmond John, Honorable Paolo Conteh, Bonkay Kamara and the club’s scribe, Kofi Addai who punished Rtd Colonel Sinnah in a thrilling match.

Chairman Agu said he is delighted in the large turn out of competitors and spectators and assured all that there will be attractive prizes for various winners on the closing day of the tournament, Saturday 20th April, 2012.

The Secretary of the club, Kofi Addai said they will be organizing such tournaments on a regular basis.

His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma will play the final exhibition match on the closing day and he is to present trophies.
