No More Violence… Ahmadiyya Leader Warns Sierra Leoneans

Head of the Ahmadiyya Mission in Sierra Leone, Mauvi Sadeeur Rahman, has strongly warned students to avoid violence and to use dialogue, not arms, to resolve their differences, reminding them of the decade-long rebel brutality through which the country has gone.  (Photo: Mauvi Sadeeur Rahman)

The Ahmadiyya leader was recently addressing a cross section of students from various secondary schools in Freetown who paid a courtesy call on him at the Ahmadiyya National Secretariat on Bass Street, Brookfields, Freetown, for him to acquaint them with the numerous activities of the mission in Sierra Leone.

After thanking the students for their visit, Mauvi Rahman told them that the Holy Prophet Muhammad, SAW, was an embodiment of peace and unity and, therefore, urged them to eschew violence and love one another in order to live in peace and harmony.

“The aim of the Ahmadiyya Mission worldwide is to unite mankind under the banner of Islam through peace, justice and righteousness as commanded by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, SAW, and as interpreted by the Promised Messiah and Mahdi , Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad who is the prophesied reformer of the latter days and founder of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Movement since 1889,” he stated, adding that the mission is well established in two hundred countries in the world, established in Sierra Leone in 1937 by Elhaji Nazeer Ahmad Ali.

Mauvi Rahman further informed the students that in 1938, the mission established its first primary school in Rokupr and its first secondary school in Bo in 1960, noting that, over the years, the mission has been making education accessible to people in the remotest part of Sierra Leone with hundred and eighty-seven primary schools and fifty three secondary in every corner of the country. He pointed out that a considerable number of outstanding Sierra Leoneans received their education from the Ahmadiyya Mission.

The Ahmadiyya Head also disclosed that the worldwide Ahmaddiyya Muslim Movement has translated the Holy Quran into seventy-three major languages in the world and, in Sierra Leone, into the mende language, continuing that in 2007 the mission established a radio station known as the Ahmadiyya Muslim Radio FM 91.7 which, he said, has been serving the Western Area and other parts of the country preaching peace and harmony.

He let the students know that the Ahmadiyya Mission has been providing health care services for many needy Sierra Leoneans in urban and rural areas, citing that three of the five health centres which the mission established before the war are still functioning effectively, providing affordable health care services. The mission, he went on, has provided solar panels for thirty-five mosques nationwide all of which now enjoy electricity round the clock.

“Every year in Bo City, the Ahmadiyya Mission in Sierra Leone holds its Annual Conference, a religious congregation for the spiritual and moral education of Muslims in general and Ahmadists in particular,” said Mauvi Rahman. He also informed the visiting students that the mission’s Non Governmental Organization, NGO, called Humanity First, has been assisting Sierra Leoneans with water wells, schools, Information Technology Centres, farms and family feeding.
