Trade Minister Tours the North

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Honorable Alhaji Usu Boie Kamara, has made an unofficial tour of the Bombali and Koinadugu Districts in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone to thank those who voted for the APC during the 2012 elections.

The minister’s ‘Thank You Tour’ took him through the Gbinti to the Biriwa and Kanso chiefdoms where he held a series of successful meetings after receiving a red-carpet welcome in every Chiefdom by enthusiastic crowds of supporters.

After paying a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Gbinti, PC Massally Kathan, at Makarie, Boie and his entourage proceeded to Kamabai and Karena in the Biriwa Chiefdom. In Kamabai, the headquarter town of Biriwa Chiefdom, the Paramount Chief, Salifu Mama Kalawa, expressed profound appreciation for Boie’s role in brokering peace between the Limbas in Kamabai and the Mandingos in Karena, calling on the minister to extend some of his good works to the Chiefdom.

Responding, Boie condemned the idea of putting chieftaincy into national politics, promising that the chieftaincy problem will soon be solved permanently as to every problem, he said, there is a solution.  Boie expressed delight in visiting Kamabai, the home of president Koroma’s late mother, noting that Sierra Leone is a blessed country that is why she is blessed with a good leader like Ernest Bai Koroma. He thanked the people for voting overwhelmingly for APC during the 2012 elections, pointing out that the chiefdom has produced many leaders including himself, President Koroma and several others, he advised the people to continue holding their peace.

In Karena, the people catalogued a series of constraints including lack of schools, water wells and electricity and called on the minister to assist them solve the problems, especially the chieftaincy problem between them, the Mandingos, and the Limbas in Kamabai. In response, Boie stated that he is now hanging heads with President Koroma to bring the chieftaincy problem to a lasting solution, thanking the people giving APC 217 votes during the 2012 elections, unlike 2007 when the party got only 20 votes from them in the first round and only 22 votes during the second round. He promised that president Koroma will solve their problems and expressed hope that they will vote more for APC in 2017.

In Manjoroh, Biriwa Chiefdom, where Usu Boie’s father was dwelling, various speakers gave a brief history of the significant role Boie’s father played in the development of the town. They listed a series of constraints they are facing among them lack of water wells, community centre, lack of health centre and Junior Secondary School, no proper toilet facilities and no micro-credit facilities to support their farming activities. Boie responded by calling on them to observe a minute’s silence for one man who lost his life during the chieftaincy conflict between the Madingos and the Limbas. He encouraged all of them to be united to develop Sierra Leone and to support President Koroma’s Agenda for Prosperity, giving them an assignment to form a joint committee comprising all tribes, noting that the committee, which should be formed in two weeks, will be used to solve their various problems. He vehemently condemned tribal sentiments which, he said, can foster disunity.

In Fadugu, Kaso Chiefdom, Bombali District, the people rained praise on Boie for his valuable contribution to the development of Fadugu. They called on Boie to help settle the three-year-old land dispute between the Kaso and Bafodia chiefdoms resulting in the death of many people and cows. Boie promised to find a solution to the dispute and called on the people to from multi-tribal committees to be used to solve their problems.

In Kabala Town, during a big meeting held in honor of Boie, the District Women’s Leader of the SLPP, Hawa Marah, crossed the carpet to APC.

The tour ended in Sinkunia, Koinadugu District, where the Minister of State, Finance, Foday Mansaray, thanked Boie for visiting his home town, describing Boie as the first sitting minister to visit the town. He told the large gathering that Boie has always been respectful to him, adding that Boie has always been confiding in him.
