MP turns master gardener

It is an open secret that Sierra Leone is still suffering from food insecurity despite the hundreds of tractors brought into the country. This is evident in the ever increasing price of certain food items. The ugly situation seems to be compounded by the notorious and unchallengeable fact that most of our leaders do not engage themselves in farming and other agricultural activities.

However, the Hon. Member of Parliament for Constituency 17  Kenema District, Honorable Habib Munda has made a difference by engaging in large scale agriculture. This MP is now hard at work establishing a massive vegetable garden in Blama in Small Bo Chiefdom. The big garden, measuring 70 hectares has irrigation facilities.

In a recent interview with Sierra Express Media in the giant garden, the MP made it clear that he is using his own money to finance the project to assist government in its food security drive. He revealed his plans to establish a large groundnut farm and a massive cassava garden very soon, noting that his Constituency is strategically located for agriculture. Honorable Munda stressed that he has undertaken the agricultural venture to let his constituents realize the economic viability of agriculture apart from complementing food security.

Minus his agricultural activities, Habib Munda is also developing infrastructure in his Constituency. He is now busy constructing a passenger shelter at the Blama Park. The project, costing 25 million Leones, is also being single-handedly financed by the patriotic MP.
