Use the Gospel to Fight Corruption – says ACC in Sierra Leone

The Director of Public Education and Outreach at the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Mr. Shollay Davies has said the gospel should be used as a tool for fighting corruption and other social vices.

Mr. Shollay Davies made this statement during an interaction with newsmen in Freetown shortly after the signing agreement for a building project for the ACC National Secretariat.

He said good morals and values contained in the gospel can change people who engage in corrupt practices and other social vices and this will lead to the progress and development of the country. He therefore called on pastors and Imams to use their pulpits to present sound and undiluted messages to transform the flock and win more souls for Christ and the prophet Mohamed.

He entreated all Sierra Leoneans, especially politicians, to use the New Year to forgive one another and to help move the nation forward, saying ‘You must sometimes allow wisdom to override your right and interest for the sake of the nation and the welfare of the people’.

He said the commission has engaged the religious leaders (Christian and Muslim) in the past to get them involved in the fight against corruption.

Through engagement with the Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone (EFSL) and the Interreligious Council, the ACC has been able to develop a handbook on “Corruption and Christianity: What the Bible Says”. He said plans are underway to develop another handbook for the Muslim clerics.
