That Uniqueness at AWOL

AWOL – Sierra Leoneans coming together to motivate and nudge the country’s development, doing so in their own evolution – for free and from their own pocket. A first of its kind philanthropic organization that is made up entirely of Sierra Leoneans who have invariably found fondness to sink their hand deep, deep  into their pockets and purses to give to the poor and  miserable.

A conglomerate of Sierra Leoneans from all spheres of life, belonging different political entities, different orientations and backgrounds but have decided to see Sierra Leone in just one way – a  forward looking way. To them it is Sierra Leone, it’s the people, its development, its cohesion and solidarity.

Some years ago, it was and is still imperceptible to most people that such unions cannot be found but amidst much skepticism; this unique group of Sierra Leoneans showed the whole world that their country’s political divide cannot stop the development of the nation, that political differences cannot be an impediment to achieving a cohesive society where what matters is to pull along each other and find means to patch the loop holes in the progress and development of the country.

When this year’s election was held to claim the executive of the country’s most prized social and development oriented club in the country, observers were awed at the fact that an APC Member of Parliament, Hon. Chernor Bah and an SLP P-cum World Ambassador for Youths in the country, Anthony Navo Jnr., were chosen to serve in the coveted chairmanship of the organization and the feat is that both personalities find it completely comfortable to work with each other, no brawl, no Pull Him Down, no politicking- all for one reason: Mama Salone. This laudable co-existence cuts across the rank and file of the organization which, to many, is seemingly impossible.

What of the fact that all of those found in the organization, from the godfather and first chairman – Moseray Fadika (Super) down to the least man are endowed with a unique trait-philanthropy.

When a venture is to be undertaken by AWOL, no one is ever hesitant to dip their hands into their purses and pockets in the interest of the poor and destitute.

Whilst one would relish laying claims on the philanthropic nature of this indigenous patriotic group, happenings in the coming weeks and months will reveal how much determination has been built in the veins of these people to see to it that the love and solidarity trait in the Sierra Leonean brought out for the world to see.
