That Contaminated Star Beer and All!

The Pull Him Down Syndrome commonly called PhD is not a peculiar phenomenon in Sierra Leone. It is something that is on the increase in Sierra Leone on a daily basis as we try to match up with other developed nations in the world. The PhD phenomenon exists in every sphere of life of the people of this country. Call it what you may, but small light minded Sierra Leoneans are constantly fond of the habit of tarnishing and criticizing one another’s image.

Looking at two critical issues that came up in the spot light in recent days have got both the drinking and entertainment public worried. One of the issues of great importance was the scandalous publication of condom and biscuit packet found in one of Sierra Leone’s Brewery product; and the other was Sign Africa’s advert mega screen displayd at both Eastern police and Lumley roundabouts.

Being that the Star beer product is found to be polluted with condom (durex) and biscuit packet, what has been its negative impact on the drinking public? How certain can one be as to whether the condom and biscuit packet actually came from the brewery bottling plant? Even though some sources of anonymous background have claimed that Brewery’s star product has caused serious diarrhea problem for one consumer who prefer to be anonymous on the 28th of December, 2009; that is not premise to sabotage the credibility of the company when one cannot actually prove that the acclaimed products were in fact bottled by the company. We have seen in this country how far people have gone to create means of embarrassing and sabotaging each other and it is not the least surprising to think that people may go as making a purported bottled Star beer product as means of blackmail or having their way.

Who knows the biscuit and the condom contamination into Star’s product might have been manipulated by some unscrupulous individuals who want to drag the 46 year old reputation of the company into the drains. Reputable business enterprises and loyal consumers have refuted the claim made by these individuals and that since they started consuming star beer they have never found such nauseating and disgusting contamination in star’s product.

Coming to the issue of Sign Africa’s advertising screens at our city centers, it has got nothing to do with traffic congestion around town. This is because traffic congestion around the city centre has been an existing problem from time in memorial. Though some may want to attest to the fact that the big screens displayed showing games might cause traffic congestion, which is unavoidable due to the narrow road systems constructed by our colonial masters. The relentless criticisms levied against Sign Africa for their laudable developmental effort is utterly unjust. This is because, similarly other developing countries like Ghana, Nigeria and even in North and Southern Africa have done the same without criticism and hindrance.

Sierra Leoneans, when must we stop this scathing criticism against one another, while other nations are busy developing themselves? The effort of Sign Africa is in no small way a laudable achievement in beautifying our city. At the moment, controlling the crowd at these big screen centers will be a Herculean task for the police, but as time passes by that momentum will definitely reduce. People flocking the scenes of such development is never a strange situation in this country, similar situations have arisen during the symbolic opening ceremony of the Fountain at the historic Cotton Tree. But as time elapses, the crowd disperses gradually.
