Ex-Combatants Attack Disabled

Some irate ex-combatants purported to be supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) on Monday 26th November at about 9:00 p.m. allegedly inflicted a deadly attack on disabled persons residing at the bus station on Lightfoot- Boston Street, leaving scores of them in a severely painful condition.

In an exclusive interview with the Chairlady of the disabled community, Zainab Sesay, she explained to this press that “the incident started by a supporter of the SLPP popularly known as ‘Abravo’ who was directing abusive language against the disabled that were present at the camp”.  She lamented that some of the disabled were unable to stomach the invectives later replicated the same which degenerated into a bitter brawl where stones were pelted at the disabled camp. According to her the fight lasted for almost two hours, but was later brought to a standstill by the timely intervention of the police.

The incident warranted police presence till daybreak, where some members of the disabled camp reported the incident to Inspector General of Police Francis Alieu Munu, who provided security personnel to help bring sanity to the situation.

Zainab furthered that that incident was directed at them with the backdrop that they had voted for the APC, which she argued as completely untrue as some members voted for other political parties.

She concluded that they are now safe with the presence of the police and praying that such an ugly incident will not occur again, saying they are already tagged physically challenged and cannot fight.

In another development the following day 27 November at about 2:00 p.m. a young girl (a hawker) was victimized and lost all her wares just because she was wearing a red muffler. Bitter rivals mistook the girl as a supporter of  the APC in the just concluded election.

Presently the situation is being controlled by the joint patrol team of the police and the military.
