As matter awaits trial… Bailiffs storm WanWord Garage

A team of bailiffs last weekend stormed a popular garage in the Eastern Community of Rokupa known as ‘WanWord’ garage, leaving behind damage worth well over Le150 Million.

Explaining the ordeal, the Public Relations Officer, of the Sierra Leone Motor Vehicles’ Maintenance Association, Mr. David Brima Tangabe, outrightly condemned the act of the bailiffs. He pointed out that this matter has been in the hands of two presiding judges of Court No.9 and the matter is still awaiting trial.

The PRO went on to say that they have consulted their legal representative in the person of Mr. Babatunde Pratt for further decision to be taken as regards the eviction, which he described as illegal.

In his contribution as the proprietor of the ‘WanWord’ garage, Mr. Mohamed Conteh of  No. 14 Savage Street, Rokupa, said he has been operating on this piece of land for over 20 years now through the legal landlords of the said piece of land, Pa. Alhaji Timbo Bundu and Mr. Saidu Bangura both of 201 Bai Bureh Road, Freetown.

Mr. Mohamed Conteh said he is disheartened as most vehicles that were damaged by the bailiffs belongs to customers he works for and as the matter is still in court he was surprised as to who gave these orders. I’m hereby calling on the Government of Sierra Leone, Human Rights Organizations, and the Judiciary in particular, to take notice of a situation like this wherein the matter is still in the hands of the Judiciary or in Court awaiting trial.
