Sierra Leone Scouts Association prepares for Camporee 2012

The Sierra Leone Scouts Association over the weekend at the Sierra Leone Museum in Freetown launched its inaugural Camporee 2012 with the theme: ‘Spirit of Unity’.

The Camporee will be stage from December 29 2012 to January 2 2013 in Magburaka and it will be the first time in the history of scouting to host such event.

According to Commissioner Michael Buckle, the 2012 Camporee which is a life encounters is not only limited to scout members but also non-scouts and it is not only limited to just scouting activities but other developmental, fun and new talents discovering stride.

He said: “This is a historic event for us and with you been part of it you will achieve many benefits raging from leadership skills, learning patience, tolerance and compassion, self discipline, perseverance and self motivation to management and planning skills.”

The guest speaker, Alhaji Unisa Alim Awoko Sesay – who himself is a scout, said there is all need for Sierra Leoneans to embrace scouting and the 2012 Camporee as scouting has made great contributions in the country.

According to Awoko, the Camporee is not only for festival but also comprises of activities that will help community activities.

“With all this innovative and community developmental strides by the scout movement, the government really need to create opportunity for the movement,” Awoko said and pledged not only to support the association ahead of the event but to also influence the support of others towards the activities.

The scout’s Deputy Chief Commissioner, Josephine Kargbo pledged the Association’s fullest supports to the Camporee Committee adding that the forthcoming event will help fly the flag of scouting higher.

She said: “Already the Camporee has got international ties, we as Sierra Leoneans only need to embrace it and involve more people to be part of this lifetime event because it is not only about scouting but goes beyond scouting.”

Mrs. Victoria Clarke made the official launching of the event on behalf of the Syrian representative to Sierra Leone.
