APC condemns SLPP’s Violence in Kono

Freetown, 28th October, 2012: It has come to the notice of the APC National Presidential Campaign Committee (NPCC) that supporters of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party on Saturday October 27 2012 attacked  Madam Haja Bintu Kabba,  APC Chairlady in Korquima, and  prominent APC supporter, Mr Ali Khalil, popularly known as Ali Baylaybaylay.  The attackers were led by Numu Jabbie, the brother of the SLPP Women’s Leader, Madam Isatu Jabbie Kabba.

Supporters of the SLPP broke into the house of Haja Bintu Kabba, ransacked it, stole property and beat her up. The SLPP mob also attacked Alie Khalil, and attempted to burn down his house at Old Yengema Road.

The APC-NPCC condemns these acts of violence and would like to draw the attention of the Police, NEC, the PPRC and elections observers to these lawless actions. The Committee also calls upon supporters of the APC to remain calm, exercise restraint and focus their attention on ensuring peaceful elections. The SLPP knows they will lose these elections. Their strategy now rests on disrupting the process through acts mentioned above. It is in this light that we call on our supporters to remain focused on ensuring peaceful elections.

Signed Mr. Leonard Balogun Koroma
APC National Elections Coordinator
