At Craig Bellamy Foundation in Sierra Leone – School’s Back!

The new Academy year is in full swing after a busy summer for Craig Bellamy Foundation (CBF), with the boys sharing new experiences and resources with the staff and a set of new volunteers, whilst preparing for a new generation of recruits.

We welcome back the two boys who spent the summer training with the Liverpool FC Academy. Mustapha and Suliaman impressed the staff in Liverpool with their attitudes and their English, as well as their football, and shared their experiences with the Academy.

Thanks to two new partnerships with Build on Books and Pelican Post, the term started with the arrival of much-needed books for the classroom and library. Take a look at our boys enjoying their new books on our Facebook page.

We also welcome four new volunteers to the CBF team who are already immersed in Academy life: Frankie Robertson, an English teacher with a wealth of experience in inner-city London schools; Adam Letham, a Maths teacher with a CV that includes schools in Uganda, Botswana and Lesotho; Eoin Power, a trained physiotherapist who has worked with professional sports in Ireland; and Victoria Mayman, a PR and communications professional with prior charity experience.

The summer also saw the final stages of our nationwide recruitment process to select the country’s most talented young footballers. Our 14 new recruits will receive 5-year scholarships and will begin life at the Academy next term, once the construction of new classrooms and dormitory is completed.

The final 22 boys, some of whom will make up the next generation
