Kuwait provide $14M for Matotoka and Kono roads

Freetown, September 28, (SLENA): The Kuwait Fund for Economic Development has provided the Government of Sierra Leone the sum of fourteen million United States Dollars for the construction of the Matotoka and Kono road which will commence in October this year.

Speaking during a tour by the high powered delegation with delegates from the Kuwiat Fund for Economic Development, Ministry of Finance and SLRA, the Minister of Works, Housing and Infrastructure, Mr. Alimay P. Koroma said road constructions is in line with the President’s dream and that in achieving that dream, his ministry and SLRA are working tirelessly in accelerating the construction of roads in the country.

The minister heartens the people of Kono to be persevered as they too will soon benefit.

 He however, expressed his disappointment on the slow pace of work by the WELL Group and further advised the company to redouble its effort as the people of Kono are in dire need of the road.

The Minister said that his ministry and SLRA will be embarking on a constant monitoring of works by the company.

In his statement, the Director General of SLRA, Munda Rogers disclosed that about eleven (11) contractors have shown interest in the construction of the roads, stating that the bids are presently in the evaluation stage and that the process is transparent, adding that within a week or two, the winner will be announced.

He maintained that the construction of the Matotoka to Yeyui and Yeyi to Kono will commence concurrently as the money needed is now available.
