NEC: No Extension of Deadline

Chief of External Outreach at the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Albert Masaquoi has categorically noted that there will be no extension of the Friday September 28 deadline date for the submission of nomination lists from all political parties.

In an interview with this press Albert Masaquoi noted that the electoral body cannot extend the deadline time as campaigns are fast approaching, noting that the NEC wants to finish the nomination stage and start printing election materials.

He urged all registered political parties to work in consonance with the slated date of NEC by putting more effort in their primaries of electing or selecting their various candidates.

Mr. Masaquoi continued by saying they are also preparing to commence nomination exercises for both parliamentary candidates and presidential candidates in a one week voting period.

Political Parties Representatives have promised to meet NEC’s deadline date in order to ensure that the NEC be able to gather enough time to carry out its activities successfully.

Also speaking to this press, the Youth League Secretary General for the All People’s Congress Party (APC), Bai Mamoud Bangura said that political parties must abide with NEC’s mandate as there is a timetable on the election exercise.
