Wife Drags Husband To Court

Rev. Dickson Obi of No 4 Thompson Bay, Wilkinson Road, Freetown appeared before Magistrate Komba Kamanda at Court No 2 with a two-count charge of domestic violence on his wife, Florence Obi, contrary to Section 2(2) (c) of the Domestic Violence Act No 20 of 2007.

Testifying in court, his wife said both of them have gotten wedded since November 2003, adding that they have three children. She said on Friday, June 22 she was sent by her boss to her office.

According to her, because the office is situated where their children attend school – the Murray Deen Preparatory School, Aberdeen Ferry Road, Freetown, Western Area, she decided to check on them and at the same time, talk to their Head Teacher, Mrs. Heading in order to explain to her why she had not been visiting the school for a longtime. She said the Head Teacher also asked her if her husband has paid their children’s school fees.

She went on to disclose that it was there her husband met her, assaulted her, stopped her from visiting the children and also asked her not to go to his house any longer. According to her, her husband did not stop there, he again went to her office and misbehaved and that as a result, she said, she lost her job.

At the end of her testimony, the lawyer, Arlene Y. Ono-Lisk representing the complainant told Magistrate Komba Kamanda that by the next adjourned date she would see how best she could strike a compromise between the husband and wife for the sake of the poor children who were also present in court.

The matter was adjourned to the 22 of September, 2012.
