Salone Leone athlete fails to qualifying in the 200 meters

Salone athlete 19 years old Ibrahim Turay competed in the 200 meters yesterday Tuesday August 7th 2012, in the ongoing London Olympic Games but failed to qualify to the semi-final stage of the competition when he finished in 8th position with a time of 21.90.

He was placed in heat two alongside Christophe Lemaitre of France who emerged as winning in the group with a time of 20.34 and was followed by Anaso Jobodwana of South Africa with a time of 20.46 and in third position was Aaron Brown of Canada all of them have qualified to the semi-final stage of the competition

Ibrahim Turay’s personal best time before the competition was 22.00 and he said that he was not happy with the position as he was expected to do better than that, he said there is some improvement in his time which according to him he hoped to improved on in the coming months.

Ibrahim Turay before the games was in Senegal undergoing high level training, sponsored by Olympic Solidarity in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone who was very instrumental in assisting Ibrahim to make his training dream a reality.

Coach Abu Batalomen Kamara aka Abu Whyte who accompanied Ibrahim Turay to the games said that Ibrahim has the potential to be one of the best athletes in the next Olympic Games in four years time in Brazil if he is ready and prepared to train; only with training can he achieve that.

According to Coach Abu Batalomen Kamara he said that he only took Ibrahim Turay less than a month to the games and there has been some improvement, if there had been more time with Ibrahim Turay before the Olympic Games he could have done more, boasted coach Abu Whyte.

Coach Abu Batalomen also revealed that four years ago at the Beijing Olympics, Solomon Bayoh who represented Sierra Leone in the 200 meters, clocked a time of 22.16; that means this year there has been an overall improvement in the time compared to four years ago.  (It is going to be gradual process he noted.)
