Court Fines NEC Defaulters

Four accused persons pleaded guilty in court on Thursday July 26, over allegations of double registration during the just concluded Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) process, before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No 2.

The four were slammed a count charge of knowingly seeking and obtaining registration as electors for more than one ward contrary to Section 3 (2) of the electoral Laws, Act No. 2 of 2002.  Abdul Aziz Koroma on a date unknown between July 23and March 24 2012, at the Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School Registration Center, Leicester Road, Freetown was caught in double registering practices. Yeabu Kargbo of No 15 King Williams Street, Felicia Buck of No 12A Prisons Barracks, Brookfields, and Samuel George of 73 Solider Street, all resident of Freetown, committed the same crime, same place.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to facts as charged.

The defense council made a plea of mitigation on behalf of the accused.

According to the magistrate, he sentenced the first accused with a fine levy of Le 450,000 or risk serving a six months imprisonment. The second accused person was fined, Le 400,000 or six months imprisonment, the third fined Le 450,000 or six month imprisonment and the forth fined Le 450,000 or six month imprisonment.
