Parliament Approves New CDS and 9 Others

Parliament has approved 10 presidential nominees including the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Brigadier General Samuel Omar Williams (in photo) on Tuesday July 24.

The nine others nominees include, Frederick J.M. Kamara, Chairman of Disability Commission, Mrs. Rugiatu Kamara, Member of National Tourism-Board, Joseph Bangura, Local Government Service Commission, Rose Marie Cole, National Tourism-Board, Leonard Taylor, Corporate Affairs Commission, representing Bar association, George Masaquoi, National Youth Commission, Southern region, Brima V. Senessie Kebbie, Member, Human Right Commission, Mr. Brima A. Sheriff and Daphne L O. Olu Williams, Members, Human Right Commission.

Making contribution on the presidential approved nominees, Hon. Shaka Sama called on the new CDS to look into the welfare of the military properly in the country and provide then with better logistics for them to be able to man the security affairs of the country in proper terms.

He called on the newly approved HRCSL members to be proactive in dispensing their duties and make sure that people’s right are safeguarded and protected in the country.

Minority Leader of parliament Hon. Emmanuel Tommy expressed appreciation over the fact that the nominees gone through the process safe in the well of parliament. He called on them to put the country first above self interest.

The majority leader of the house, Hon. S.B.B. Dumbuya, in his contribution, said all the approved nominees have the required qualification for the various positions. He called on them to work in consonance with the laws of the land.

Speaker of parliament, Justice Abel Stronge congratulated all and wishes them well in their new responsibilities.
