Health for All Coalition to Hold Family Planning Summit

The Executive Director of Health for all Coalition, Charles Mambu has told Sierra Express Media that his organization is going to be hosting a national family summit in Freetown.

Speaking on this Charles Mambu (in photo) said they are replicating the global family planning summit held in London on July 11 here in Sierra Leone, adding that the main objective of organizing the summit in Freetown was to strengthen the family planning project in Sierra Leone, which seems to be lagging behind in Sierra Leone as compared to other developing nations.

Charles Mambu said his organization together with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation are heightening the re-position of family planning in Sierra Leone, by including the project’s agenda for prosperity (2012-2017) development project.

Charles Mambu said there are lots of challenges towards family planning in Sierra Leone, adding that government should do more to address the situation, which is one of the causes for high rate of teenage pregnancies and drop-out tendency among the peer age population of Sierra Leone.

The health for all coalition man also notes that a total of $2.6 billion (USA) was pledged by global leaders to address this problem in the country as data had indicate that a 120 million poor women are without access to family planning drugs.

He disclosed that health for all coalition is using the Freetown summits to strengthen the establishment of family planning units, and that they are currently employing the service of 3 more medical professionals to increase their medical values in their team.

The project is done in collaboration with UNFPA, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Government of Sierra Leone.
