Ramadan message

Today I join my Muslim compatriots in welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan. Ramadan  is a month of forgiveness, redemption and mercy. It is the month in which the Islamic Holy Book of Guidance, the Qur’an was revealed. We pray that we will live up to the promise of this great month of fasting, prayer and compassion.  (Photo: HE President Ernest Bai Koroma)

Our nation is built on a solid foundation of religious tolerance; hardly any other country in the world is as religiously tolerant as our nation. It is because of this that in our country the Month of Ramadan is a month revered by both Muslims and Christians; it is a month that Muslims invite Christians to break the fast with them, and which Christians join Muslims in prayers for their families, their communities and the nation

Let me also use this opportunity to thank this nation for the great compassion shown to my family on the loss of my Mother. Your prayers and heartfelt condolences have been great sources of support during our bereavement.

Let me also humbly request all Sierra Leoneans during this holy month to pray for God’s guidance as we go to the polls this November. The Quran says God gives power to who He wishes; and that in His hands is goodness. It is my fervent belief that God in His infinite goodness and mercy will guide and make our choice of the leaders of this country peaceful, blessed and good.

The scholars of Islam tell us that there is a special night in this Month, the Lailatul Qadri, or month of power, that is better than a thousand Month; I pray the divine blessings of this great night be upon us.

Once Again I congratulate my Muslim Compatriots.  Ramadan Karim;  Ramadan Mubarak.
