Please vote for We Care Solar in the Saving Lives at Birth People’s Choice Award

With your help, we could bring hundreds of Solar Suitcases to Uganda in partnership with African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) and White Ribbon Alliance!

AMREF is a finalist in the “Saving Lives at Birth” Grand Challenge, sponsored by USAID, The Gates Foundation, Canadian Grand Challenges, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and UK Aid. The AMREF proposal addresses maternal and infant mortality in Southwest Uganda, where 66% of women deliver at home, and most health facilities are without electricity. Your vote can help us bring light, power and better maternal health care to Southwest Uganda.

AMREF’s Saving Mothers and Babies with Reliable Solar Power project improves maternal and child health care by bringing 200 communities:

  • Solar Suitcases for medical lighting, phone charging, and computer charging
  • Electronic fetal monitors for better obstetric care,
  • Educational programs for midwives to improve quality of care,
  • Community health education programs to encourage more women to deliver with skilled providers, and
  • New computers for electronic medical records and medcial education.
  • Your vote for this project can make a difference!

Please sign up on the Saving Lives at Birth website, and vote for the Saving Mothers and Babies with Reliable Solar Power project by AMREF.  A few minutes of your time to sign up and vote can mean a lifetime of difference to a family.

Uganda Update

We are heading to Uganda to follow-up on the wonderful work done by Safe Mothers, Safe Babies in December. In addition to supervising the research being done in Iganga district, we aim to install more Solar Suitcases under the guidance of Hal Aronson. We’ll post updates on Facebook.

Back from Rio+20

We had a wonderful time at the Rio+20 United Nations Sustainable Development Conference. We were on panels with leaders of the UN Foundation, World Health Organization, UN Energy, and UN Women, and advocated for sustainable energy for women’s health care.
