Alleged Rapist Got Bail
Abdul Bangura of 31 Regent Road, Lumley, was arraigned before Magistrate Binneh Kamara of Court No 4 on three count charges ranging from Indecent Assault contrary to Section 9 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Caps 31 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960, count two, Abuse of Young Girl contrary to Section 6 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Act Caps 31 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960 , count three, Child Cruelty contrary to Section 4 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to children Act Caps 31 of the Laws of Sierra Leone 1960,
Testifying in court the eight years old said Abdul Bangura had an unlawful carnal knowledge with her. She said the accused frequented his pursuit on her during the period he takes to teach her at home as a special ward.
Mother of the eight year old victim, Aminata Sesay said she pays Abdulai for his tutorial classes just to ensure that he helps her daughter in her private studies at home from school.
Testifying in his own defense, Abdul Bangura pleaded not guilty of the allegations. He said his intentions were to genuinely help the eight year old in her home studies.
He said the eight year old framed up lies against him because she bore grudge against him over the fact that he flogged her for her negligence while he used to teach her.
Defense counsel for the accused Lawyer E T Koroma applied for bail on grounds that the court does not have enough evidence to commit the matter to the High court.
