The Bionic Man, Pushing the Limits!

Sierra Leone’s poet extraordinaire, Jusu Jaka Yawmah, aka Jay Jay, was so caught up in awe upon reading about the technological advancement of biomechatronics at the MIT Media Lab and also finding at the peak of it was fellow Sierra Leonean classmate of Prince of Wales School, Kingtom (1996-2003) David Sengeh, that he felt compelled to write a poem as a moral support to the initiative of the Biomechatronics Group, MIT Media Lab, and also to encourage those who have been deprived of limbs that there is hope with the bionic plan, “The Bionic Man”.  (Photo: Professor Hugh Herr of the Biomechatronics Group at The MIT Media Lab – an active dynamic amputee who enjoys sports like rock climbing.

The Bionic Man, Pushing the Limits!

Made of veins, muscles… and a prosthetic socket
Relieved of unwanted pressure, I can fly a rocket
Even at critical locations, my residual limb is just so perfect
“I am the Bionic Man, pushing my limits, with a stunning effect”.

.

I am comfortable, flexible, livable and very much sociable
Though maimed, the Biomechatronics Group made available
Powered robotic ankle-foot prostheses that makes me capable
“The Bionic Man is what I am, I push my limits, I am also able…”

.

Deprived at the arms, hands, legs or feet
A low-cost, functional and comfy prosthetic kit
Will help salvage the restrains, help you face your defeat
“I can push my limits, jog, hike, climb… I’m physically fit”.

.

To nations around the world, this is the Bionic plan
An interface between mechanical devices and man
Enhancing physical capability to the maimed human
A state of the art prosthetic design, “The Bionic Man.”

A fearless and modern bionic man can also do it
Because we are never hesitant to push beyond the limit
A remiss not to mention that designs are at aesthetic meet
“I am the Bionic Man, I push limits, I can be it, I can do it…”
